I saw this demo a while ago of a product called Keyhole. It was very cool, and then I forgot about it. Well, I stumbled onto their site today and found that they had a demo available for download. I was amazed. I searched for the house I grew up in as a kid (Westerville, OH) and was able to see my house, and all the stuff that has built up in the city since I left (10yrs ago). I was also able to find the spot where my current house is (it's new so the map just shows an empty field) and see in very clear detail the farm across the street.
I do some GIS stuff for my day job and this is the coolest thing I've seen since sliced bologna. I strongly suggest that you go check it out.
