I've been experiencing some issues with my Sager laptop lately. I think these issues are something people should be aware of before they purchase a Sager. My laptop is a Sager 5680 and the warranty is already up. Here is the email I wrote to Sager in hopes of getting the problem resolved. I will post any response that I receive.
Dear Sager,
3 months ago I submitted a request to have the front and back LCD cover pieces replaced under warranty because of cracking occurring at the hinges. I mentioned that I had done some research and that it appeared to be a common problem with the case because several people on line were experiencing the same problem:

To solve the problem you sent me a replacement front and back LCD cover which I installed.
I'm very disappointed. Three months since I installed the cover and the cracks are already back. They are in the same exact spot. It seems obvious that this is a design flaw and I'd like to know if anything can be done.
In addition to the case cracking, I have also had problems with my power supply. In fact it's the same exact problem that a friend of mine warned me about. The point at which the cable attach's to the AC box has started to tear and expose bare wire. Because this is a safety issue I immediately purchased a new AC adapter from PC Torque for a total of $94.85.
When I first bought my Sager I was extremely satisfied. I would show it off to everyone who wanted to see as a premier desktop replacement laptop for a reasonable price. With all of the design flaws beginning to become apparent I'm feeling if my money would have better be spent on an Alienware, or Dell.
My computer is currently out of warrenty, however, beacuse these issues are so obvioulsy design flaws I'd like to know what you ca do to remedy my situation.
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey W. Fansler.
UPDATE: Sager has offered to replace the caseing again and to adjust the hinge so the problem doesn't happen again.

Ugh, I had mine sent in last year to fix the problem. And I asked them to loosen the hinges, which seemed to be the problem.
Now it's happening again! I can't believe it.
Did they replace yours for free? Because they charged me $120 and I was *UNDER* warranty. They said it was a PHYSICAL problem and therefore they didn't have to deal with it.
They also sent me a defective DVD burner upon first shipping, and then had the nerve to say that "it was broken, but you can purchase a new one from the Sager store!"
Oh, great. So glad I spent $3900 on a shitty laptop that breaks every 6 months. What a disaster.

i bought a used sager 5680 branded as a Sager or Clevo D500P (possibly a bit updated).
it's very heavy, the battery is dead from simply being old in a power-hungry laptop, and I had the same problem with the hinges. The DVD doesn't read anything except CDs.
The trick is getting replacements. Various Sager offices will tell you different and false information, and you might be able to get a bracket for as low as 10USD from the european one, however, it's best if you can speak chinese. Which I do not.
After getting a replacement, the rest is easy. It is also possible to braze, a kind of lower-temp welding, the bracket back together. Save the pieces and take them to a metals shop, a machine shop should be able to do it.
The plastic on the outside is secondary; this breaks when the metal LCD supports have broken.
The hinges are set too tight from the factory, so if you only replace the metal LCD support(s), it will break again. The hinges must be loosened so about 600Grams of pressure is required to move an individual hinge. This amount is enough to hold up the display without putting unnecessary stress on the hinge.

Leah is definitely the one who should win. Science Fiction Conventions? What?! She deserves a win, indeed!
