A friend of mine was talking today about how horrible it is to be pigeon holed onto one project.  He works at a web development company and has been working on the same project for over 2 years.  So if there are any managers out their listen up.  If you rotate your developers on your projects, you will get more productivity not less.  I know it seems odd at first, but you have to understand the minds of programmers.  Most of the developers I know do this because they like how fast the tech industry moves.  They like learning new stuff.  By rotating your developers on projects you keep things fresh.

There are other benefits too.  Because you are rotating, issues are more likely to get fixed right and not just patched.  This is because if a developer doesn't do it right, they know that their co-developers will kick their ass.  If they are stuck on the same project, they just want to fix stuff and go home.

Your application will also end up being well documented out of necessity.  Everyone will find a way to share the important information and keep it up to date if they know they will be on a different project.  You also inject new ideas into a system, different viewpoints.

Maybe I'm full of shit, but I don't think so.
