Ok, I know I'm a little slow, but Mix06 was great. I have all sorts of notes for stuff I want to post but I just don't have the time to do it right now. Here are a couple of bullets:
- Media center development is much improved. I just don't understand why we now have XAML and MCML. Someone asked that question in a session and the answer was that the media center team started on MCML before XAML. It'd be nice if they could clean this issue up before release.
- ATLAS looks very nice. I haven't gotten into much AJAX development yet, but do see the benefit. ATLAS will make it much easier for me. I'd rather let someone else deal with all the browser compatibility issues and let me focus on delivering solutions. This is what ATLAS does for me.
- MS Research does some very cool stuff. There was a demo of a new text input system during one of the mobile development sessions. I was impressed.
- When I heard about InfoCard I kinda blew it off as just another attempt at Passport. I'm glad I went to the session about identity to learn more about it. The session was great. I hope InfoCard takes off. It would certainly make my life easier as a user.
- Bill Gates looked old. No offense Bill.
- The discussion between Gates and Orielly was interesting. I think Gates should go into politics. Seemed like he often answered a different question then what Orielly asked.
- I tried to play with a Origami device (I refuse to call it ultra-mobile pc). They had 3 there and 2 were broken. The one that did work had a screen sensitivity issue. You really had to pound on it. It was neat, but at the prices I'm hearing (800-1200) I'm not going to get one soon.
- This was my first time in Vegas. I had a good time, but I'm glad it was only 3 days. I can't imagine staying there longer. I was taken back a bit by the nude trading cards that are shoved in your hands as you walk along the strip. Each has a nude woman with a phone number so you can call to get an escort. Just weird.
