I just happen to work for this really great company. So when I started grumbling that my old Sager laptop was just too big, didn't have any battery life, and was hot as hell, they decided to buy me a new Tablet PC. It's great when companies like mine reward developers with cool tools that will help them be more productive. It's a win win situation. Come to think of it, my company bought everyone a new Tablet PC. What a great company.
Ok, ok... so it's my company and there's only two of us full timers, but it's still a really cool company to work for. We even all have our own offices.
So the Table PC that we decided on is the Toshiba Tecra M7. It was the only one we could find that meet all of our requirements:
- Convertible
- Screen that isn't tiny
- Higher resolution than 1024x768
- Run an Intel Core Duo
- Have a dedicated graphics card with 128MB of graphics memory
- Not too heavy
Now the too heavy part is a little skewed because we are used to gigantic Sager laptops. A giant bag of sand is lighter than these things.
The Tecra meet all of these criteria. There where a couple that were close, one by Compaq, and one by Fujitsu.
The Tecra screen is 14.1 WXGA that runs at a 1440x900 res. It has an NVidia Quadro 110M with 128MB of memory It has an Intel Core Duo Processor (2.0Ghz). and is just shy of 6lbs. We also loaded it up with 2Gb of RAM and an 80GB 7200RPM Hard drive.
Now is the hard part. We have to wait for Toshiba to build it and ship it. 8-10 days to build, 2 day shipping. Should have it for the beginning of October.
